Tabassum Fatima Hashmi is an Indian film actress, especially she known as Tabu. Generally, She has acted in Hindi films as well as she has filmed some English, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Marathi and Bengali language. Twice, she has won National Award and 6 Filmfare Award for Best Actress, which includes Best Actress's Four Critics Award. The Indian government honored him with Padma Shri in 2011. Tabassum Fatima Hashmi was born on November 4, 1971. Tabu is generally seen as the main character in the film, critics also admire her performance. 


Tabassum Fatima Hashmi was born on 4 November 1971. She was born to Jamal Hashmi and Rizwana to a Hyderabadi Muslim family. Shortly after her birth, her parents divorced, her mother was a school teacher. To get the elementary education, Tabu went to St. Ann High School in Hyderabad. In 1983 Tabu went to Mumbai and after two years began studying at St Xavier College.
She is the niece of Shabana Azmi, Tanvi Azmi and Baba Azmi and the younger sister of actress Farah Naaz. She can speak Telugu, Urdu, Hindi, and English.

She has also played leading and supporting roles in several commercially successful films, including her debut film as a lead actress in Coolie No.1 (1991), Vijaypath (1995) , Ninne Pelladata (1996), Saajan Chale Sasural (1996), Border (1997), Biwi No.1 (1999), Hum Saath-Saath Hain (1999), Fanaa (2006), Jai Ho (2014), Drishyam (2015) and Golmaal Again (2017). Her international projects include a leading role in Mira Nair's drama The Namesake (2007) and a supporting role in Ang Lee's highly successful adventure film Life of Pi (2012).

Tabu has been eligible for 2 National Film Awards for Best Actress for her performance in film Maachis (1996) and Chandni Bar (2002). She has also won six Filmfare Award, Best Actress for Critics Award for her film, Virasat (1997), Hu Tu Tu (1999), Astitva (2000) and Cheeni Kum (2007) and 1 movie Haider (2014). Supporting Actress Award and one for Filmfare Award (South Film) and Best Supporting Actress - Telugu Film.
