Bollywood Actress Sridevi and Kamal Haasan| The Electrifying Onscreen Pair

                                            Best Onscreen Pairings of  Bollywood

Sridevi and Kamal Haasan were hits couple on the big screen. They Worked together in 27 films including, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi..Both Southern superstars gave electrifying performances together as an onscreen Pair. No big surprise, Sridevi's passing left Kamal Haasan lamenting for the lady he had known since she was 13.

Their last movie together was 30 years ago with the movie Oka Radha Iddaru Krishnulu. Her debut as an adult actress was with Kamal Haasan in the movie Moondru Mudichu where Sridevi played the role of a woman who is forced to marry against her wishes to protect herself from harassment. The film also starred Rajinikanth. But, it was the pairing with Kamal Haasan which the audiences loved.
Off-screen too, both the actors shared an irreplaceable bond. At a time when female actors were not treated very well, an older Kamal Haasan took it upon himself to look after a young Sridevi. The petite girl had been an actress since she was a toddler and Kamal Haasan in comparison was her senior. Yet, the actor came to regard her as his equal in the profession.

Their pairing was not just electrifying, but also complementary to each other. It seemed as if they could make the audience laugh and cry with them. Moondram Pirai was a testimony to the same. The film has been remade into several languages. Together, both of them attracted sympathy as well as empathy from the viewers in roles which could have backfired. The Hindi remake featuring the iconic pair did not work well at the box office at the time but has since been regarded as their most loved film. Sadma, with its portrayal of a grown-up woman whose memory loss leads her to behave like a child and a man taking care of her, was an unforgettable film. And  Sridevi-Kamal Haasan  made it even better.

Now that the iconic star Sridevi is no more, Kamal Haasan does feel the kind of grief one feels after losing a child. The man had not just worked with her when she was a child, but also been more than a senior or even a contemporary. His tearful tribute to her is a testimony to the same.

Fashion diva Sridevi | Sridevi Fashion Style

Fashion Diva Sridevi

As the news of her demise came in on Sunday, several pictures of her from her Instagram page to her iconic red carpet appearances dazzled our news feed. And why wouldn’t it? Sridevi had reinvented herself as a fashion diva, a style icon and that flair for fashion was shared by her two daughters – Jhanvi and Khushi.

In the last couple of years, Fashion Diva Sridevi has been seen in magnificent outfits, experimenting with her looks and style. Designers like Manish Malhotra and Sabyasachi Mukherjee have adorned her with their collections of embroidered, bandhgala sarees and gowns that radiated her gorgeous looks. She’d never be overtly dressed and fashion police does not remember any faux pox on her part.

Even her western wear never went on an overdrive, unlike actresses of her age. She would choose pantsuits, column dresses and carefully-accessorised wear to make a style statement. In a society riddled with ageism where older women are always under tight scrutiny for their appearance, she never let her contemporaries or critics decode her looks. Sridevi, as always, was the epitome of grace, exhibiting her own style and never shying of who she really was.

This was unexpected from Sridevi. We all remember her outlandish costumes from some of her greatest dance hits. The golden costume with a head gear in Hawa Hawai, the 800-metal-studded head crown in Roop ki Rani Choron ka Raja, and her see-through saree in Mr India which sent the country on a tizzy back in the day – there was a lot of extravaganza thrown in there. But she wore all of it with pride. Even when she marked her second innings with English Vinglish in simple cotton sarees, Sridevi was on top of the game. Since the 90s fashion is back in vogue again, we might see those skirts, off-shoulder tops and chiffon sarees back on screen again. But they all carry the quintessential  Sridevi  charm it.

Sridevi Career journey from being India’s first female superstar to being one of the “best dressed” celebrities is enchanting, to say the list. As we go through her Instagram page and of the pictures from the wedding, it’s heartening to see what a diva she was, then, now and always!

Sridevi Hits: Top 20 Stunning Dance Numbers of India’s First Female Superstar!

Best dance performances of Sridevi

The iconic Sridevi, who made people swoon over her in the 80s and early 90s, has left for her heavenly abode quite suddenly. A family function turned out to be her last time with the world. Her chirpy, cheerful, vibrant and charismatic nature found its way onscreen and off screen as well.

Before Madhuri Dixit came into the picture, Sridevi was the first female superstar! The first female superstar sridevi, as we can say! As we remember her for her legendary performances in Bollywood films, we also look back the dance numbers which were a rage in the day and are being recreated even today.
Here’s remembering this amazing diva through her top 20 best dance performances of Sridevi.

1. Hawa Hawaai - Mr. India-

For all those who woke up this Sunday morning to the new of her demise, the lines, “Bijli giraane main hun aayi, kehte hain mujhko Hawa Hawaai!” was the song playing in their heads. This is the quintessential Sridevi number which, even Vidya Balan could not do justice to in the recreated avatar. True, Bijli giraane wo thi Aayi! *sigh*

2. Na Jaane Kahan Se – Chaalbaaz–

Karan Johar once said how big a fan he was of Sridevi’s comic timing which is unparalleled. This song encapsulates just that! Her Charlie Chaplin style, expressions and the comedy she exhibited in the song made her an icon. “Kisi ke haath na aaegi ye ladki” became a national rage and Sridevi made history by becoming the first female superstar of Hindi cinema.

3. Naino mein sapna, Himmatwala–

The movie catapulted her to stardom with her first commercial success opposite Jeetendra. Her sultry moves in embroidered costumes, lavish sets, decorated matkas, and strong beats were no mean feat. The graceful and talented dancer that she was, Sridevi’s expressions in some stills from the song are unmatched to this day.

4. Mere haathon mein nau nau choodiyan –Chandni–

The song is still a rage in weddings. Back in the day, before peppy wedding numbers made their way in Bollywood with elaborate sets and loads of back-up dancers, Sridevi single-handedly, managed to create magic onscreen with this classic song sung by Lata Mangeshkar. Her child-like expressions, movements and graceful poise made things easier for people. Yash Chopra once recalled how excited Sridevi would get about the dance numbers in her films. Well, that did reflect in her performance.

5. Main teri dushman – Nagina–

The movie was a dud but it was Sridevi’s performance and her expressions in this song which made the song what it is today. Think of snakes and snake-charmers, and this beat comes to your mind instantaneously. Nobody could get the grooves as perfect as Sridevi, no matter how many stars attempt it today. Venom spilling from her eyes, fury radiating yet such sensuality projected onscreen, that was what made this song a legend.

6. Kate Nahin Kat Te - Mr. India–

Before Raveena Tandon gave us sensual saree moves, Sridevi had set the bar high already with this super sensual song from Mr India. A call to her lover, Shekhar Kapur, the director, was left awestruck by her performance and her shedding of all inhibitions at a time when actresses were not supposed to openly sexual. This opened the doors for other actresses to explore sensuality onscreen. But none could come closer to Sridevi.

7. Har kisiko nahi milta yahan pyar zindagi mein, Jaanbaaz -

The song was shot in a very different manner than most contemporary songs. Performing opposite Feroz Khan, Sridevi’s seductive moves in a red saree with a mic is unmatched. The song was remade but Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha could not do justice to this number.

8. Chandni O Meri Chandni – Chandni–

Sridevi also lent her voice to this peppy number from the iconic 1990 classic opposite Rishi Kapoor. Her childlike voice and her innocence are audible even in her voice. She was, truly, the facet of this movie and since has been the face for this song. Say Chandni and you see Sridevi.

9.  Morni baga maan, Lamhe–

This Lata Mangeshkar number from a controversial movie was an instant hit back in the day. The folk elements coupled with Sridevi’s solo moves still beckon those days when filmmakers experimented with new genres and actors gave those makers a chance.

10. Kabhi Main Kahoon Song | Lamhe –

A romantic number from this movie way ahead of its time depicting fraternal romance, Sridevi exceeded as a young girl who falls for a man 20 years her senior. She danced with exuberance opposite Anil Kapoor with grey hair. The song had a rain sequence too which sees her portraying a young girl in love and celebrating it without inhibitions.

11. Meri Bindiya – Lamhe–

Another number from Lamhe, the song was also a romantic number which saw her all decked up and dancing in anticipation of the future. She transforms from a petite actress to a bejewelled woman and loves the whole process. But its her innocent eyes which do the talking in this table beat number.

12.  Tu Mujhe Kabool - Khuda Gawah–

She performed oppiste megastar Amitabh Bacchhan in this film. The song is another mention of a woman’s unfettering love for her man in the face of her obstacles. Not an easy song to master, Sridevi mastered this song with her power-backed dance and her sordid expressions.

13.. Dhak Dhak Dil – Laadla–

A song sung in drunken stupor in a swimming pool, the song had the right mix of peppiness and naughtiness mixed in it. No wonder the kind of chemistry she shared with Anil Kapoor was one of its kind.

14. Dushman dil ka jo hai - Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja–

The movie was a disaster in every sense of the term with overtly grand sets and loads of extravagance thrown in. Yet it was Sridevi’s dance performances which sent people into a brief tizzy while they slept through much of the movie. Her eyes, as usual, did much of the talking. Who can ever beat that? No wonder Big B sent her a bouquet of flowers in admiration!

15. Main aisi cheez nahin – Khuda Gawah–

Sridevi’s ferocious avatar would lead even her leading men to sit up in awe. Big B was left visibly dumbstruck when he saw his leading lady give such a nuanced, tenacious performance. Too bad, both these stupendous actors collaborated in only 3 movies, out of which Khuda Gawah worked wonders at the box office.

16. Aye Zindagi Gale Lagaa Le – Sadmaa–

We all love this beautiful number from the movie. One of her quieter numbers, Sridevi stands out in it as a quaint, immature, childish girl. No other film depicts Sridevi in all her childlike glory as this film does. The song can put a smile on your face before the climax makes you cry in utter sorrow. Kamal Hassana and Sridevi looked amazing in the movie together.

17. Tu Na Ja Mere Badshah - Khuda Gawah–

yet another beautiful number from this epic film, Sridevi depicts sorrow and separation in its myriad forms in this song. With the beats in the background and Alka Yagnik’s voice, Sridevi reinvented herself and made the audiences fall in love with her all over again.

18. Tere Mere Hothon pe – Chandni–

Yet again, Lata Mangeshkar lends her voice to Sridevi in this ubiquitous romantic number shot in scenic beauty. Her saree-clad avatar was, in any way, famous with viewers.

19. Tere Pyar Ko Salaam – Gumrah–

One of her lesser known songs opposite Sanjay Dutt, Sridevi makes use of western costumes and foreign locations. Listen to the Jhankaar beats and you will know what makes it so sultry.

20. Navrai Majhi - English Vinglish–

This song proved she still got it! The best comeback film she could have asked for, Sridevi played the role which is a reality for many Indian women. A mother to grown-up kids, she dances in this wedding number like any of our mothers would. One would not be able to imagine watching her play a quintessential housewife, that she was the reigning queen of Bollywood and a dancing diva at her best.

These are the best hits of Sridevi, We are yet to come to terms with her sad demise at such a young age! Who can ever replace her? It’s a void never to be filled! Rest in peace, Khwabon ki Shehzadi!

Bollywood Posters that have been copied

Bollywood is remarkably outstanding for two things, i.e. entertainment and plagiarism. While movies in Bollywood over the years have entertained and mesmerized the Indian masses, there have been cases where Bollywood has relentlessly copied concepts, story, songs and even the posters from Hollywood, Tollywood, Kollywood etc.  In the name of inspiration, Bollywood has plagiarised the concept of other movies and there seems to be no end to it.
Here’s the list of some of the Bollywood  movie posters copied from Hollywood or other film industries -

Ra-One, Batman Begins-

The poster of the most ambitious yet not much successful superhero project of Shah Rukh Khan was copied from another Hollywood superhero Flick Batman Begins, with a difference in costumes and the background color.

Bombay Velvet, Barsaat –

The Ranbir Kapoor Starrer Bombay Velvet had some similarity with his grandfather Raj Kapoor`s movie Barsaat. The similarity was in the first look of the movie which was similar to the movie Barsaat.

PK, Portuguese album Quim Barreiros –

The most controversial poster of nude Aamir Khan holding a radio set was a copy of the 1973 musical album Quim Barreiros in which Quim was seen holding an accordion covering his private part.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Lords of Dogtown-

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is probably one of the best movies of this decade with exquisite locations, memorable holiday destinations and of course excellent storyline. However, the main poster of the movie was actually copied from a Hollywood fiction Lords of Dogtown.

Kites, The Notebook –

The poster of the 2010 movie of Hrithik Roshan was also copied from one of the most romantic films of Hollywood “The Notebook”.

Making of Khalibali Song Of Bollywood Movie Padmaavat

Makingof Khalibali song

You can safely go around saying that Ranveer Singh is pure perfection no matter which character he takes up. You disagree?  Please think over after watching `Padmaavat` for the sheer brilliance that his magic weaves. This guy owns his art-craft too damn well!
Ranveer Singh plays a ruthless emperor in Bollywood  Movie Padmaavat ; the character has a vile yet elusive charm. This sweet nemesis is Satan incarnate himself, wrapped in magnetism and power, which seems to bring out the most demonic fascinations which will arouse you with the feeling of guilt. Ranveer Singh delivered yet another blockbuster hit of the year with the evil fierceness intact and made his way straight into our hearts, oh! Also charts. He has left no stones unturned in owning the title of the most villainous hero of all time.

"I think it was Day 37, my brain had become mush, my body had become pulp, I didn`t know when I was coming and going. The shooting process was very difficult. The final action battle with Shahid (Kapoor) was extremely difficult. Shooting Khalibali was very difficult. I could barely stand and I had to do this dance " he said in an interview.
Yesterday, T-series shared a behind the scenes video of the making of Khalibali song. The song which is choreographed by ace choreographer Ganesh Acharya has been receiving gallons of praise ever since the release of Padmaavat. Ganesh was also the choreographer for the popular “Malhari” number from Bajirao Mastani which also featured Ranveer Singh. Khilji is showcased as his darkest and wicked best in this song, all thanks to Ranveer’s dedication and grit and Ganesh’s picturesque choreography.

In the making video of the Khalibali song in Padmaavat, Ranveer is practicing, again and again, to get his steps right. From every direction, this song which celebrates Khilji’s obsession is done perfectly, with choreography, expressions, and emotions falling in the right place. No doubt “Khalibali” played a pivotal part in cementing the crazy ferocious image of Alauddin Khilji in the audience’s mind adding more flavor to his character.

The song features the savage sultan dancing and merrymaking in the most carnal way, with his troops. A restless Alauddin Khilji eagerly awaits the arrival of  Padmavati and orders a celebration. Reason? Sultan is lust-smitten. One feels that probably this is how Khilji might be in real life! If you don`t call that amount of convincing power as brilliance, I don`t know how you define excellence! Now that you witnessed the madness, let`s watch the final product!

One of the most scenic songs “Khalibali” certainly deserves a galore of awards this year. With this, Sanjay Leela Bhansali adds another quaint masterpiece to his list of hits which includes “Dola Re Dola”, “Nimboda”, “Deewani Mastani”, “Malhari” among others.

This is, however, not the first time that we have seen him don the role of a cop with elan. Check out Best  movies  of  Manoj Bajpayee which perfected the man in uniform.

Shool

Playing the role of Inspector Singh who does not compromise on his principles under life-threatening circumstances, Manoj added life to this character. He is not simply a man who takes the law into his own hands but also ensures that there is fair play. He ultimately kills Bachchu Yadav, a corrupt politician but not before he expresses his pain of losing his wife and daughter in a powerful monologue.

Special 26

Donning the role of an honest law implementer, he plays a CBI officer who chases Akshay Kumar’s character Ajay and his accomplice PK Sharma (Anupam Kher) when they pose as fake CBI officers and conduct raids across the city at several businesses across the city. His performance was at par with that of Akshay Kumar though they played opposing roles.

1971

Based on the Indo-Pakistan war fought in 1971, Manoj Bajpayee played the role of an army man who begins to safeguard his troops amidst heavy warfare. The movie sunk into oblivion before it could get a chance at the box office. However, it is regarded as one of the finest films of Bajpayee.

Jaago

The movie saw him play the role of a cop who fights for justice for a couple who lose their 10-year-old daughter after she is raped. The upright inspector Shankar fights hostile members of his own police force, as well as the rapists, turn out to be the sons of wealthy and influential citizens. Threatened repeatedly by them, he ultimately shoots one of the rapists in the courtroom.

L.O.C Kargil

We see Bajpayee once again in uniform where he played Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav who is the only surviving member to link up with the rest of the battalion during the Tiger Hill take over stealth attack by the elite Ghatak section. In spite of an ensemble cast, this JP Dutta film gave us one of the best performances of Manoj Bajpayee.
